Apapa Customs Command collects N502.9b from January to July 2023

The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) said that it generated N502.9B billion from Apapa port and within the period made 16 seizures worth a duty paid value of N1.4 billion.

The Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Auwal Baba Mohammed, made this disclosure in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC A Usman, in Lagos today.

While describing the revenue collection and seizures as a feat well attained, the Controller said the revenue and seizures were made as fallouts of increased compliance and therefore urged officers of the Command to redouble their efforts in revenue collection, trade facilitation, and strict enforcement of anti-smuggling activities.

“The command made a collection of N9.2b on July 20, 2023, the highest daily collection the Command has ever achieved in its existence since the port was established,” he said.

Compt. Mohammed listed the seizures as drugs, used tyres, rice, vegetable oil, and sundry items. He also added that the command made a seizure of two pistols inside one groupage cargo, one suspect was arrested, and the matter is undergoing investigation.
