“We can’t wait to share what we’ve have been working on with you,” was the exact words of Guaranty Trust Bank in a widespread email and SMS to its customers on Thursday July 6, 2023 announcing that the bank had set July 12, 2023 as deadline for the release of its ‘newly and improved design’ of GTWorld Mobile Banking app on Play Store and App Store.

Many GTBank customers with excitement of experiencing the suppose new design got the shock of their lives when they upgraded and found out they could no longer gain access to their apps. Several GTBank customers who are Clearing and Forwarding agents told PORTS & BORDERS that they could not proceed with their port businesses as they were stuck trying tog in to the new app

Away from the ports, Mushin Ibrahim, a GTBank customer told a short story of how he nearly got duped by internet fraudsters who were leveraging the glitch and how many other unsuspecting customers may have fallen victim.

Fraudsters are exploiting GTBank's new app problem to scam unsuspecting customers. I was nearly duped a while ago. Their Twitter handle (@__kgtbankhelp) has just been suspended. This is their phone number: +2349133458735. They may also ask you to fill out this form:…

Toba Adeyeye another customer wished he he can take the arms of time back to what he said was the old good days with the regular GTBank app.

“One App that won’t disappoint you is the regular Gtbank App. You see that beautiful Gtworld App is like marrying a slay queen,” he wrote on Twitter.

Lanre Ademiju, a visual communication designer, asked the very question PORTS & BORDERS asked, “why push customers to update the GTWorld app only to leave them stranded and frustrated along the way?”

I have the updated GTCO app but I can't log in with my phone number.@gtbank, @gtbank_help, if you're not ready for the update, why ram it down people's throats? Even when I click on the 'Need help?' button, it gives an error message. So, I can't access my money? @fccpcnigeria pic.twitter.com/hcLdFG5cOR

Talk they say is cheap, what GTBank has done in the last 48 hours was to send out the usual “we sincerely apologise” message leaving many customers locked out of their money while expecting an OTP that has refused to drop since July 12, 2023.

So @gtbank @gtbank_help please fix this app asap, I am now able to go from the first screen and stock on the OTP screen, cos no OTP is coming forth. Please fix this. #gtbank #gtb pic.twitter.com/QrMdYDz3Zo

“We are aware that you recently updated your GTWorld App and you have been unable to log in after the update. We sincerely apologise for every inconvenience you have experienced in the last 18-24 hours,” the bank said in an email, and advised customers to use USSD codes for transactions.
