The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has unveiled significant updates to its visa and residency framework, launching new visit visa categories and revising entry permit rules to attract global talent, strengthen tourism, and support key sectors such as technology and entertainment.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) explained that the changes are designed to enhance quality of life, stimulate trade, drive economic growth, and address humanitarian needs. Four new categories of visit visa
AI Specialist Visa: Issued for single or multiple entries for a specific period, subject to a letter from a host or sponsoring technology company.
Entertainment Visa: Granted to foreigners visiting temporarily for leisure purposes.
Event Visa: For those attending festivals, exhibitions, conferences, seminars, or cultural, economic, sports, religious, or educational activities.
Cruise Tourism Visa: A multiple-entry visa for tourists arriving on cruise ships or leisure boats, subject to an approved travel itinerary and a licensed host company.
Expanded Residency Options
Humanitarian Residency Permit: Available for individuals from countries affected by war, disasters, or unrest, valid for one year with the possibility of extension.
Residency for Widows and Divorcees: Foreign widows or divorcees can obtain residency within six months of the death or divorce of their spouse, provided they meet specific conditions.
Visit Visa for Relatives and Friends: Residents can sponsor friends or relatives up to the third degree, with eligibility determined by the sponsor’s income level.
Business and Labour Visas
Business Exploration Visa: Requires proof of financial solvency, ownership of a stake in an overseas company, or documented professional practice.
Truck Drivers’ Visa: Allows foreign lorry drivers to obtain a visa for single or multiple trips, provided the sponsor is a licensed freight or transport company, with health insurance and financial guarantees required.
