Danish shipping and logistics company, Maersk said it will be reducing the human footprint on supply chains and let artificial intelligence (AI) take over many more tasks in the shipping of goods around the globe over the next five to seven years.
Maersk CTO Navneet Kapoor made this disclosure stating that the company is on the goal of “zero touch logistics.”
”It’s not just hopeful thinking. We believe it’s possible to digitize almost the entire supply chain. It takes time, but we are working on an AI engine. When it becomes fully functional, it will be possible to integrate data automatically, and that’s where the magic happens,” says Navneet Kapoor.
He estimates that the group currently uses artificial intelligence for 15-20 percent of its logistics tasks, but that in five to seven years it could account for 70-80 percent.
Maersk currently has an AI solution that calculates and suggests the shortest route and one that can optimize work in the terminals.
