ABUJA — Presidency announced on Thursday that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

Mr. Adeniyi’s current tenure was set to end on August 31, 2025. However, the extension, authorized by the President, will allow him to continue overseeing key reforms and critical initiatives aligned with the administration’s priorities.

According to a statement issued by Presidential Spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the extension is intended to support the consolidation of ongoing reforms, including:

  • The modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service,
  • The implementation of the National Single Window Project, and
  • The execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.

The statement also highlighted President Tinubu’s appreciation for Mr. Adeniyi’s dedicated service and strong leadership. The President expressed confidence that this additional year will further enhance the Customs Service’s performance in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
