The Tincan Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service generated a total sum of N229,321,865,091.16 in revenue from January to June, 2021.
This is an increase of N52.07 billion compared to the N177,249,503,426.94 generated in the first half of 2020.
According to the performance report by the Area Controller, Comptroller MBA Musa, the Command in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, made a seizure of cocaine concealed in 40 bags of raw sugar packaged in bulk.
The Command also Seized two automatic rifles with 164 rounds of live ammunition and have since been handed over to the DSS.
Other items seized include military uniform and used clothing with a Duty Paid Value of N81,857,831.00, among others.
In the area of Export, the total value of commercial goods exported through Tincan Ports within the period under review is N66,294,630,421.00 and a total volume of 100,800.3 metric tons.
The report also showed that Cocoa beans were the highest export commodity with a value of N27,723,651,475.00 while stainless steel was the lowest with a value of N4,000,500.00.
‘’In the meantime, the port access and terminal access roads are undergoing construction, the Command has continued to facilitate the use of Barge as an alternative means of transport for the movement of cargo in line with international best practices, helping to maintain business flow in the Customs clearance process’’ he said.
He further said that while the Command is optimistic for better performance ratings, the implementation of the e-Customs project and the installation of smart technology at the ports will be a turning point in the digitalization of Customs processes and procedures and will significantly boost the Command’s capacity to enforce compliance and generate revenue in line with international best practices.
