MMIA Lagos Customs Command records N20 Billion in 2022

January 20, (THE PORTWAY) — The Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA Command Ikeja, Lagos of the Nigeria Customs Service has said the command generated a sum total of Twenty Billion, Eight Hundred and Ninety Eight Million, Five Hundred and Fifty-Seven Thousand Eight Hundred (N20,898,557,800) from January to December 2022.

This was disclosed in a Press Release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Juliana Tomo and obtained by THE PORTWAY.

“There is an increased collection of One Billion, Eight Hundred and Forty-Nine Million, Seven Hundred and Forty-Seven Thousand, Two Hundred and Sixty-Five Naira, and Eighty-Five Kobo (N1,849,747,265.85) only due to an improved integrity of passengers in the declaration of goods and high level of compliance towards voluntary payment of Customs Duty,” Tomo said.

Speaking further, she attributed the mark made by the Command to improved integrity of passengers in the declaration of goods and a high level of compliance towards voluntary payment of Customs Duty.

In his speech, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Mohammed Malami Gidado lauded the seamless travelers’ clearance procedure adopted by the Command as initiated by the CAC, which resulted in the rise in revenue collection for the Command.

“This implies the effectiveness of the adopted strategies while measuring performance and challenges from August to December 2022 compared to the preceding year’s collection.” The CAC added.
