January 11, (THE PORTWAY) — The Rapid Response Squad of the Nigeria Customs Service says it intercepted a total of 190 vehicles with duty paid value (DPV) of N7.3billion in January 2023.

The newly appointed coordinator of the RRS, Deputy Comptroller Jack Okpobi made the disclosure while addressing newsmen in Abuja. Among the intercepted vehicles were two Prado jeeps which the customs boss said were almost brand new with each having the same chassis number. “Two vehicles having the same chassis number is not only criminal, but a height of falsifying and indulging in smuggling,” Jack said.

He also disclosed that about 28 units of Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Buffalo pickups were also intercepted but the document presented by the alleged owners only showed 9 units which were never exited from Customs zone.

The coordinator finally, gave a sounding warning to those indulging in unscrupulous activities that kills the country’s economy to desist from doing so as the Service will not relent in its effort at fighting smuggling.
