The Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, was honored by the Federal Government of Nigeria on Saturday, July 6, 2024, with the Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service (NEAPS) for Outstanding Revenue Collection.

CGC Adeniyi received the award at a ceremony held in the Presidential Villa’s Banquet Hall in Abuja. It was given in recognition of his noteworthy accomplishments in generating revenue since taking office as Comptroller-General of Customs in June 2023.

Adeniyi, after receiving the award, expressed his happiness in an interview and reaffirmed his dedication to boosting Nigeria’s economy through trade facilitation and revenue collection. He expressed his gratitude to the president, the SGF, and NEAPS for the honor, saying, “The Service has been challenged to double its efforts in making our country proud by this national distinction. Public servants are inspired to give their all and work hard while in office.

Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, had earlier urged the award recipients to keep up their excellent work. He emphasized that the chosen people and organizations were picked using impartial standards from the public and private sectors.

Akume greeted guests to the second NEAPS event and noted that the inaugural event had taken place there in October 2024. He gave The Best Strategic (TBS) Media acclaim for coordinating the gathering with the OSGF. He emphasized that NEAPS is an award that honors creativity, initiative, and noteworthy contributions to public service and the advancement of the country.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and Deputy Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President) Senator Ibrahim Hadejia were among the 44 recipients of the Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State were recognised for their sector-specific interventions.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso, President of Dangote Group Alhaji Aliko Dangote, former SGF Boss Mustapha, and Chief Jim Ovia, Founder/Chairman of Zenith Bank, were among the other honorees.

Each year, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) and NEAPS collaborate to organize an annual recognition program that honors those who have made outstanding achievements to public service in the year prior.
